Glenn County – PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff Information (PSPS)
What is a PSPS event?
A Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event is a proactive safety measure where electric power is temporarily turned off to lines in high-risk areas to help prevent wildfires during severe weather conditions.
Why does PG&E call for a shutoff?
For public safety, power is proactively turned off when gusty winds and dry conditions, combined with a heightened fire risk, are forecasted.
Predictions of strong winds are just one of several criteria considered before initiating a safety shutoff. PG&E looks closely at a combination of factors, including but not limited to:
- A Red Flag Warning declared by the National Weather Service
- Low humidity levels, generally 20 percent and below
- Forecasted sustained winds generally above 25 mph and wind gusts in excess of approximately 45 mph, depending on location and site-specific conditions (such as temperature, terrain, and local climate)
- Condition of dry fuel on the ground and live vegetation (moisture content)
- On-the-ground, real-time observations from PG&E’s Wildfire Safety Operations Center and field crews
Even if a specific community or neighborhood is not directly experiencing high winds or located within a designated high fire-threat zone, its power may still be shut off if the local grid relies upon a major power line that passes through an area that is experiencing severe weather and heightened fire risks.
PG&E anticipates that a Public Safety Power Shutoff could occur several times per year in its service area. Because environmental conditions change rapidly, it is impossible to predict with certainty when, where, or how often these hazards will occur.
While customers living in high fire-threat districts are the most likely to be affected, any customer could have their power shut off if their community relies on a line passing through a high-risk area.

Power Outage Information
Provides access to PG&E tools that allow users to view potential and current Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) impacts. The outage map displays areas that may be affected by future PSPS events, shown in orange when the “Future PSPS Outages” option is selected. Users can also search by address within the map to see whether a specific location may be impacted.
An address lookup tool is also available for checking whether an address is currently affected or may be affected by a PSPS event. If an address does not appear in the search results, PG&E may be unable to match it within their system.

Power Outage Safety & Preparation
Food Safety: Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. A refrigerator keeps food cold for about 4 hours. A full freezer maintains its temperature for roughly 48 hours.
Generator Placement: Always operate generators, camp stoves, or charcoal grills outdoors and at least 20 feet away from windows, doors, and vents to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

Please Note: Community Resource Centers are only open during active power shutoffs. When CRCs are closed, use the outage map to identify energized areas for power.
Outdoor CRCs May Provide:
- Charging stations for electronic devices and medical equipment
- Wi-Fi service
- Snacks and bottled water
- Blankets and other items
- Chairs and tables
