Glenn County – PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff Information (PSPS)
What is a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event?
A Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event is a proactive safety measure in which PG&E temporarily turns off power in high-risk areas during periods of elevated wildfire risk. PG&E considers multiple factors when determining whether to initiate a PSPS, including:
- Low humidity
- Forecasted high winds
- Dry material on the ground
- Vegetation near power lines
- Red Flag Warnings from the National Weather Service
- Real-time ground observations
PSPS events can occur several times a year, and changing weather and environmental conditions make it difficult to predict when, where, or how often they will occur. While areas with higher fire risk are more likely to be affected, any neighborhood may be impacted if its local power system relies on infrastructure serving a high-risk area.
For more information about the factors PG&E considers when determining whether to initiate a PSPS, visit PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoffs page.
